The Hyde Park Labour Action Team met with Sheldon Square residents to support their opposition to a 22-storey student block on the Travis Perkins site directly opposite the low-rise Sheldon Square homes. Residents have called the plans ‘gross over-development’ and have urged the Council to refuse the planning application submitted recently.
Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Judith Southern and Md Chowdhury met over 30 residents to urge them to write letters of objection to the Planning Department and to contact the Mayor to ask him to refuse the application.
The meeting with residents comes on the same day as the Government announced a £64 million cut in funding to London universities and calls into doubt the need for the 843 new student rooms proposed by the developers.
