Maida Vale’s Labour councillors are calling for Westminster Council to take action to help residents of Kilburn Park Road park closer to their homes.
One side of Kilburn Park Road is in Westminster, but the other side is in Brent. Outside of controlled hours (weekdays 08.30am to 18.30pm) many Brent residents park on the Westminster side. This reduces the number of spaces available and Westminster residents have complained of being forced to park as far away as Randolph Avenue, 15 minutes’ walk from their homes.
Kilburn Park Road is a long street with space for over 70 cars on the Westminster side. The Maida Vale councillors counted the parked cars on three evenings in one week and were astonished to find that that 25%-40% of the parked cars were not Westminster residents.
Maida Vale Councillor Geoff Barraclough, said:
“Kilburn Park Road is right on the edge of the city but that’s no reason for Westminster to ignore its residents. They have as much right to park within easy reach of their homes as people living in Knightsbridge or St John’s Wood. We’re calling on Westminster to consult with residents about extending the controlled parking hours.”
