Labour-led Westminster City Council have confirmed they will recruit an additional 8 new City Inspectors to bolster efforts to crack down on the crime and anti-social behaviour that impacts local residents across Westminster. These new city inspectors will form a new central unit that will be deployed to address anti-social behaviour issues around the city, which will operate in addition to the existing neighbourhood and out-of-hours City Inspector teams.
These new City Inspectors form the latest part of a package of measures by Labour-led Westminster Council to help address concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour in our city. These have included doubling the size of the Council’s new CCTV network from 100 to 200 cameras (including 40 new cameras in Soho and around Leicester Square to as part of our upcoming Westminster After Dark work), recruiting additional noise team case officers, doubling the size of the short-term lets enforcement unit and introducing a new specialist Street Based Intervention Team (3 City Inspectors, 2 Rough Sleeping Outreach Officers and an ASB caseworker) to address issues in hotspots such as Victoria.
Leader of the Council Cllr Adam Hug said “Westminster Labour is committed to doing all it can to help make our residents both feel and be more safe in our city. Whilst the previous Conservative administration talked tough but cut the number of City Inspectors and scrapped the Council’s CCTV network, we are investing in community safety because we know the difference it can make to local people.”
