As a many residents may know two members of Westminster Labour Group- Councillors Tim Roca and Jessica Toale have been elected as Members of Parliament at the election on 4th July. We are delighted for them both and know they will serve both their new constituencies and the country well in Parliament, building on their experiences here in Westminster.
Cllr Roca has served Harrow Road ward since 2015 and made history as one of the two Labour Deputy Leaders of the Council to take office in 2022. He led transformative work on expanding access to free school meals and played a key role in the Council’s response to the cost-of-living crisis. Cllr Toale served as Councillor for West End ward since 2022, in that short time she supported her local community and played an important role in the restoration of the Council’s culture funding as Deputy Cabinet Member for Culture.
In light of their new responsibilities, Councillors Roca and Toale will shortly be resigning their seats on Westminster City Council. This decision will enable them to fully focus on their duties as Members of Parliament and serve their new constituents to the best of their abilities.
Leader of Westminster City Council Cllr Adam Hug said “It’s a bittersweet time as we say farewell to Tim and Jess who have both done so much for our city but know that they will play a crucial role in helping this new Labour Government deliver on its programme for change.”
